What is PDPA?

Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act or PDPA, published on May 27, 2019, administers the collection, use and protection of personal data and sets corrective measures for data subjects who are victims of a breach of their personal data. Thailand's PDPA Personal Data Protection Act is strongly based on the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), but it is not identical.

It means that being GDPR compliant does not guarantee PDPA compliance. PDPA applies to organizations that are located in Thailand, whether they collect and use the data inland or not. It also applies to organizations located outside of Thailand if they offer goods and services to data subjects in Thailand, or if they track the behaviour of data subjects in Thailand.
